Origins of Linh Ung Pagoda and the Lady Buddha Statue

Legend has it that during the reign of King Minh Mang (1791-1841), fishermen in Son Tra Peninsula stumbled upon a Buddha statue floating in the sea. Believing it to be an auspicious sign, they erected a shrine to worship the statue. Miraculously, from the time the shrine was established, the seas calmed, and the fishermen enjoyed peaceful fishing seasons. The area where the Buddha statue drifted ashore was named Bai But, meaning “Land of Buddha.”

In 2004, this very land was chosen as the site for the construction of Linh Ung Pagoda. Within the pagoda’s grounds, a majestic statue of the Lady Buddha was erected. People from all walks of life visit to pray for protection and peace
