We’re proud to introduce the Cau Xanh Dat Quang cooperative, where environmentally friendly products are made from areca leaf sheaths.

Introduction

In Tien Phuoc District, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam, areca trees are a vital part of life. The area is known as the “Areca Capital” of the province, and the leaves of the areca tree are traditionally used for a variety of purposes.

In 2022, a group of women from the Loc Yen commune of Tien Phuoc founded a startup called Cau Xanh Dat Quang Cooperative. They saw an opportunity to create sustainable and eco-friendly products from areca leaf sheaths, which are often discarded as waste.

Using their skills and creativity, the women of Cau Xanh Dat Quang Cooperative produce a range of products including bags, hats, and flower pots, etc.

Through hard work and dedication, Cau Xanh Dat Quang Cooperative has achieved initial success. Their products have been well-received by consumers, and the company is now working to expand its production and reach new markets.

Production Process of Cau Xanh Dat Quang Cooperative

1. Areca Sheath Collection (March – August)

  • Areca sheaths are collected from March to August each year.
  • Each areca tree sheds about 4 leaves per year.

2. Quality Selection

  • Only the best quality areca sheaths are selected.
  • They must be bright white, free from mold, and collected immediately after shedding.

3. Drying

  • The collected areca sheaths are dried in the sun to remove moisture and ensure quality.

4. Storage

  • The dried areca sheaths are stored in a warehouse with a dehumidifier to prevent moisture and mold during the rainy season.

5. Soaking and Shredding

  • The dried areca sheaths are soaked in water to soften them, then shredded.
  • The shredded areca sheaths are then dried again.

6. Weaving

  • The shredded areca sheaths are woven into the final product.

7. Drying

  • The finished product is dried in a drying room to ensure that it is completely dry and free of moisture.

8. Application of AB Bioglue

  • A layer of AB bioglue is applied to the product to protect it from mold and ensure durability.

9. Final Drying

  • The product is dried again after the application of bioglue.

10. Storage

  • The finished product is stored in a warehouse until it is ready to be shipped or sold to customers.
